I don't normally start off by saying how much I enjoyed I previous work by anauthor, but I really loved Kate Jacobs The Friday Night Knitting Club. She proved herself very adept at weaving relationships within the context of a story.
Comfort Food starts out with our hostess Gus. The hostess with the mostest. While she loves cake and planning parties, the one she doesn't want to plan his her own 50th! While she is lamenting this she finds out her ratings are down and then is thrown a curve ball..... a co-host. Not just any co host but a Spanish beauty queen who leans a bit toward the obnoxious side.
In the pot is also Oliver, a hunky ex-money man soothing his soul by doing what he loves...cooking. Gus's daughters who took on their own acting roles after their dad died so as not to cause Gus any trouble and to make sure everything was *fine* , Hannah the reclusive neighbor hiding from the scandal of her past...and is spiced up with one of the daughter's new fiance and ex-boyfriend. When they all gather in the kitchen it's mayhem for sure, but this is one place where they could have learned a lot more about each other instead of behind closed doors! This was attempted toward the end of the book, but almost like an after thought.
I thought Comfort Food was ok, except for the feeling of being rushed at the end of the book. Including some of their recipes might have also been nice too!
I give this a 2 1/2 out of 5
